Monitoring EPM performance using Oracle Data Visualization

01:30 PM 02:10 PM Executive Box 52/53

Is your EPM system behaving like Grumpy, Sleepy or Sneezy? Oracle Data Visualization can be your magic mirror and allow you to monitor your EPM systems performance. This can help you identify trends and take action before issues build up, as well as provide the “fairest visuals” to illustrate how well you manage your systems. In this session, you will: - Learn where you can find information on HFM consolidations times and system checks, Planning job status, and how to capture Essbase maxl logs, Essbase DBStats; - See how to connect to SQL Server databases and tables and integrate the data in Oracle Data Visualization Desktop; - Review examples of data transformations and integration of custom Excel sources for better use in Oracle DVD; - Build sample visualizations in Oracle DVD to analyse and present the data The technics applied to the EPM suite in this presentation can also be used for other system performance and behaviour monitoring. While not required, some understanding of SQL and databases can be useful. In the same way, some knowledge of the EPM suite, in particular HFM, Planning and Essbase, and its administration will make the first part of the session easier to follow.

The benefits of using Merlin XL

02:15 PM 02:55 PM Executive Box 56/57

MerlinXL is an Excel based tool that allows users of HFM retrieve data from HFM in a similar way to Smartview, but with added benefits of being able to produce dynamic reports that can easily be customised and adapted by end users to meet their requirements. MerlinXL has also brought significant benefits to our intercompany matching process through its Intercompany Wizard which allows intercompany mismatches to be viewed in Excel. Intercompany reporting mismatches can be identified faster than is possible using standard HFM matching reports and has allowed the company to speed up our month end close process. The Report Wizard in MerlinXL has been well received by our users and can be used to create reports that can be adapted to suit user needs and which are much more flexible and dynamic than what can be achieved with standard Smartview Excel formulas. MerlinXL is simple to maintain from an administration viewpoint. Security is inherited from HFM and users do not need to be provisioned separately. Metadata is updated automatically when users log onto MerlinXL so maintenance requirements are reduced. MerlinXL has been a successful investment that has benefitted finance users within DS Smith and this presentation is intended to highlight those benefits.

Cloud Wars: Avoid the pitfalls of hosting Oracle systems in a Cloud.

04:00 PM 04:45 PM Executive Box 56/57

Organisations have rapidly moved from being wary of “the Cloud” for enterprise systems to embracing the opportunities it presents. While much attention is on Cloud Applications & SaaS, many organisations don’t need to replace current systems but are ready to move them to Cloud hosting and reap the benefits. Applications can be “sweated”, extending their ROI, while reducing costs and improving flexibility & support. But the Cloud also brings pitfalls, some unique to Oracle databases and Hyperion because of Oracle’s licensing and support policies. In this presentation we examine these pitfalls and discuss how organisations have mitigated them.

Proactively Monitoring & Maintaining your EPM Systems

10:15 AM 11:00 AM Executive Box 52/53

Do you rely on your users to tell you when there is an issue? Does IT outsourcing reduce your visibility of the systems? Working as an EPM system owner for many years, as well as being responsible for several other critical finance systems, I found it difficult to constantly manually monitor EPM systems so devised a number of techniques and scripts to send alerts when systems required attention or make them self-maintaining. This session aims to outline some of the EPM administration techniques for maintaining audit tables, log files, service availability and how pro-active alerting can help to maintain maximum up-time and inform non-IT EPM owners of issues.

Transfer Pricing based on HFM & TPH (Transfer Pricing for Hyperion)

10:15 AM 11:00 AM Debenture Lounge

The requirement for Transfer Pricing solutions for multinational enterprises is growing apace, driven by factors such as commercial globalisation and the OECD's Base Erosion and Profit Sharing (BEPS) initiative. New regulations and growing resource challenges are fuelling a desire to better leverage technology and increase process automation.

TPH (Transfer Pricing for Hyperion) is an innovative transfer pricing reporting solution that takes advantage of the proven functional, reporting and process automation capabilities of Hyperion Financial Management (HFM).

In this session Matthew and Neil will provide an introduction and overview of TPH and discuss how it facilitates the definition of the transfer pricing rules, their deployment across related companies, execution of the required financial formulae, and the automation of the complete transfer pricing calculation process.

OECD Country by Country reporting with HFM/FCCS

12:15 PM 01:00 PM Debenture Lounge

International companies in the OECD are now required to provide Country by Country reporting of their key financials metrics. We will review the requirements of this Country by Country reporting (the presentation will include digests and links to the relevant publications), and how these can be fulfilled using HFM. The session is based on a real life case and will show how the solution was designed and implemented, as well as what were the questions we received from our reviewers (financial and tax auditors) when walking them through the solution. If you are already using HFM as your consolidation solution, there are multiple benefits in using it to also deliver the Country by Country reporting, which we will discuss in the session.

Rehosting from on-premise to Azure

02:00 PM 02:40 PM Debenture Lounge

AMOSCA partnered with Specsavers to assist with their cloud-hosted Hyperion upgrade as part of their wider infrastructure upgrade programme. Microsoft Azure Cloud services had previously been decided upon as the platform to host Specsavers HFM & FDM upgrade to 11.1.2.4, via the supported upgrade path. Challenges included: elements of EPM dependent infrastructure were delayed/unavailable, constraints on resourcing due to wider programme commitments, complexities with infrastructure, build and user access. We worked with Specsavers infrastructure engineers to ensure that the overall impact was kept to a minimum. No stone was left unturned to stick to deadlines resulting in project success and a very happy customer.
